It was an absolute treat for me to photograph the wedding of Hanna and Johnny at Chelsea Old Town Hall, one of London’s most beautiful and iconic registry offices. This gorgeous couple had a big wedding celebration planned in the South of France the following month, and chose to hold an intimate micro style ceremony in London with their close family and friends.

A small wedding ceremony at Chelsea Old Town Hall
Small weddings give you the opportunity to celebrate in a truly personal way with a few close family or friends, or even just the two of you, and Chelsea Old Town Hall is such a wonderful choice for a small registry office wedding in London. It’s a lovingly restored grade II listed building with tons of original victorian-era features giving a really authentic feel to the details in each room. The ceremony rooms vary in size and all have big beautiful windows that let in lots of light, so (speaking as a photographer) it’s a bit of a dreamy venue where I know there’s going to be lots of opportunity for some really stunning photographs.
Located in the heart of Kensington and Chelsea, South Kensington and Sloane Square tube stations are conveniently close by, and you don’t need to live in the borough to get married here. There’s slightly different rates available for weekday weddings, so if you’re planning a really small micro style wedding then choosing a weekday date can offer some savings.
You can actually hold bigger wedding receptions here as well, and if you’re planning a larger celebration then you can have 140 people at your ceremony and 180 for a dinner reception. You get a dedicated events manager to assist you with everything in the run up to your big day and the main hall has a fabulous sprung dance floor for your evening party, set against the beautiful backdrop of the main hall.

Confetti and group photos on the iconic steps at Chelsea Old Town Hall
The staff at Chelsea are super helpful, seamlessly ushering everyone out onto the steps for my favourite of all wedding photos…CONFETTI! There’s something just so celebratory about confetti that I just love. It’s a moment of relief after the big emotions of the day and all the pre-ceremony nerves. Everyone always loves this moment of joy, and of course throwing things (let’s be honest everyone loves throwing things). As a photographer, confetti is a moment to really capture the joy of your day and to get some beautifully natural candid photographs. On the day, you’ll see me lining up your guests and prepping them on how to throw the confetti so it floats up and over you and flutters down naturally.
I advise going with a biodegradable paper option. I love a rainbow of really colourful confetti, but there’s so many colours available nowadays that it’s easy to find something that perfectly complements your style. Have a look at some amazing colour options here. White confetti can get a little lost if your dress is also white, so I’d suggest choosing a confetti with a little colour for that contrast in your photos.
For your group photos we’ll usually have around 15- 20 minutes on the steps which is more than enough time to get some group photographs with the all important people at your wedding. We can do lots of different combinations of friends and family, and a big one of everyone all together if you’d like!

Couple’s wedding portraits around Belgravia in Chelsea
After your ceremony, I’ll whisk you away for some couple’s portraits on the pretty streets of Belgravia around the King’s Road. There are SO many options for couple’s portraits from charming cobbled streets, colourful houses, shopfronts and floral displays all in an urban setting, and you’re guaranteed to get some lovely congratulations from passers by too.
Don’t worry if you or your partner feels a little nervous or awkward being photographed while out and about in London. I offer gentle guidance, and it’s my absolute mission to make sure you both feel really comfortable throughout your shoot. I’ve got an eye for a beautiful backdrop, so let’s go for a wander and I’ll guide you to some lovely little spots I know along the way.
I suggest allowing around 20-30 minutes for your post-ceremony couple’s portraits to allow us to visit a few different spots, but it’s really up to you and you’re timings on the day. As a rule, the more time we have to play with, the more creative we can get with your photographs!

A wedding reception dinner at the Thomas Cubitt Pub in Belgravia
If you choose to have a reception dinner after your ceremony, then you’ve got so many places to choose from nearby. Hanna and Johnny held a drinks reception and dinner at The Thomas Cubitt Pub in Belgravia for their post-wedding celebration.
It’s a brilliant choice if you’re looking for an intimate dining setting for your guests, there’s some fabulous country pub style food and it feels really private with a series of rooms that you can book out for you and your guests.

We were blown away, every shot was perfect – you managed to capture the feeling of the day in such a beautiful way.
