Frequently asked questions

Here’s everything you need to know about your maternity or newborn photoshoot

All your questions, answered. Still have a question? Just get in touch! I’d love to hear from you.

Do you offer mini seasonal newborn or maternity photoshoots?

Yes! I offer mini photoshoot sessions throughout the year. These are usually Summer and Autumn mini photoshoots outdoors in South London, and then mini photoshoot sessions in the studio around Mother’s Day and Christmas time.

I offer priority booking for my mini shoots to my mailing list subscribers and I often operate a waiting list for these shoots as they can be very popular sessions. Do join my mailing list if you’re interested in hearing about my mini sessions in advance.

Can extended family members participate in my newborn or maternity photoshoot?

Absolutely. I love big families! Including grandparents (or great grandparents) and extended family in your photoshoot can be a wonderful way to spend quality time together and a photoshoot is a really meaningful way to mark the big memorable moments in the life of your family.

How do I prepare for a maternity or a newborn photoshoot at home?

Don’t spend ages tidying and cleaning up! I can work with your space how it is and I want to capture you in your everyday space. We don’t need magazine perfection to capture beautiful images of you in your home, and it’s best if everyone taking part feels comfortable and relaxed. I can just shuffle a few things out of the way on the day if needed.

I like to make the most of the natural light in your home, so keeping a bit of clear space around the windows can be helpful. Opening curtains or blinds and clearing clutter from the windowsills can help light your images beautifully, and you might want to think about adding any sentimental items to your space to be included in your photographs.

I feel awkward or nervous in front of a camera, can you help?

It’s my mission to help you feel comfortable during my photoshoots! My style is very much natural and unposed and I want to capture you feeling like yourself. I’ll offer some gentle direction and encouragement so you can be completely confident in the process and know you’re in the best hands.

Can you recommend an outdoor location in London for my maternity or newborn photoshoot?

Absolutely. Depending on the time of year and where you live, I’ll recommend some great places for you to have your maternity or newborn photoshoot outdoors in London. I cover the whole of London and know lots of beautiful and lesser known spots for us to head to for your photoshoot.

My photoshoots are designed to capture some special memories for you, so think about If there is a place that is particularly meaningful to you and your family. Perhaps there’s somewhere you’ve had a wonderful day out together, or a local park you know like the back of your hand? I can happily photograph anywhere outdoors in London, so let me know if you have somewhere in mind.

Photography permits are needed in some locations, and if that’s the case I can let you know the costs and arrange this for you.

What happens if it rains?

I’m pretty weather hardy and usually embrace photographing in most weather conditions. Rainy shoots are often the most fun outdoors!

However, if it’s looking like torrential rain or gale force winds, we can reschedule to another date.

What happens if someone is ill?

If you or one of your family is unwell on the day, just let me know as soon as possible. I’ll absolutely reschedule your session to another date!

It’s SO important to me that you have the best experience during your photoshoot so please just let me know if you or someone else is unwell for your maternity or newborn photoshoot.

How much does a maternity or a newborn photoshoot cost?

The session fee to book my maternity or newborn photoshoots is £149 and this does not include any images. This covers my time on the day and any preparation before your photoshoot and is a non-refundable booking fee.

After your photoshoot I’ll send you a private online gallery of images to view and you can select the ones you’d like to purchase as you wish. You can also order any mounted prints, frames, or photo albums.

What happens if my children won’t smile for the camera or misbehave?

My approach is gentle, informal and very child-led. I’ve worked with children of all ages for many years and there’s no ‘good’ or  ‘bad’ behaviour in my book.

I’ll work with you to plan a photoshoot that I know your children will love whether they’re wriggly little toddlers or totally fed-up teenagers. I’ll make sure that we get the best out of everyone on the day and will help you plan your family photoshoot to be completely tailored to you and the needs of your individual family.

What should I wear for my newborn photoshoot?

I can help you decide what to wear for your newborn photoshoot and you should absolutely wear what makes you feel happy and confident and most importantly like yourself!

Think about how you want to feel during your newborn photoshoot and wear something that you love. You should avoid very loud pattern, or tops with slogans on can get bunched and be distracting. Otherwise the choice is yours! If you’re trying to coordinate with other family members, I’d suggest picking an outfit you really want to wear, and then styling the rest of the family around it.

what should I wear for my maternity photoshoot

Think about how you want to feel during your maternity shoot and wear something that you love. Figure hugging tops and dresses can really help to accentuate your baby bump, and clothes that are drapey or loose can frame you beautifully. If you’d like, you can lay out a few options to try and I can advise you on what will work well in the photos.

During your photoshoot, I’ll give you the option to have some maternity photos taken with your bump showing, and it’s completely up to you if you feel comfortable with this or not. If you’d like to have your bump showing, I usually recommend a nice bra with a shirt or kaftan over your shoulders, or a big loose top that can be draped up to show off your bump.
